Substitution for germanium transistors in "organ" circuit

I want to try and build up this "organ" type circuit (probably as a stylophone) but the diagram calls for PNP germanium transistors which are very sought after by guitar pedal makers and amplifier repairers. Would BC557 transistors or similar work as a substitute? Many thanks.

The VOX Showroom The Vox V301E Continental Organ

This is significant as germanium transistors tend to be a bit less dependable than silicon transistors. Unfortunately, the electronic design of the V301J Continental Organ was finalized by 1962, a period that predated the popular usage of silicon transistors. After the Beatles led the British Invasion to America in 1964, JMI chose the Thomas

GEM Model P ( Vox Jaguar V304) All Original Germanium Reverb

This organ was manufactured by Galanti Electro Musical or (GEM) using Vox parts, with the Germanium SFT 351 transistors (all of which are in tact). I have a Vox Jaguar V304 and it is the same instrument, except the bass chord sounds on the GEM are slightly more interesting. Voices are very similar as is the vibrato. It's a killer organ.

Replacement germanium power transistors? The Organ Forum

May 03, 2020 I'm not familiar with the transistor in your photo but generally Germanium power transistor cannot be substituted for modern Silicon transistors', without making changes to the biasing circuits. The Hammond R100 and T 500 series both used Germanium power transistors which are rather expensive,so it's very tempting to use substitute silicon ones

Lot of 30 Vintage Germanium Transistors 1960s from Organ

Up for sale here is this lot of 30 transistors. These were removed from an old organ, and I believe they are from the 1960s or late 1950s. I am pretty sure these are all germanium transistors. They have various markings on the tops, like "3G 1E GT" or 1E 1E S." Some of these have some light corrosion on the tops, but overall they're in good

Vox Continental combo organ (italian V301E model)

All the keys were intact, all the legs, the original volume pedal, and the carrying case for the legs were all there. The only missing original items were the AC cord and the Vox badge on the front of the organ. The electrolytic caps on the power supply had burst and several germanium PNP transistors were blown.

Germanium vs. Silicon Transistors Robert Keeley

Sep 11, 2013 Germanium is a chemical element with symbol Ge and atomic number 32, that’s used as a semiconductor in transistors and diodes, popping up in a few classic effects like the early period Arbiter Fuzz Face, the storied Dallas Rangemaster and the Maestro Fuzz-Tone. “Subjectively the sound of Germanium offers a smoother, more-ear pleasing

Vox Continental Wikipedia

The Vox Continental is a transistorised combo organ that was manufactured between 1962 and 1971 by the British musical equipment manufacturer Vox.It was designed for touring musicians and as an alternative to the heavy Hammond organ. It supports drawbars in a similar manner to the Hammond, and has distinctive reverse-coloured keys. The sound is generated by a series of oscillators, using a

Germanium Transistor Haul Telecaster Guitar Forum

Jul 10, 2020 The other Germ thread reminded me of this stash of transistors I pulled out of a 1955 Gulbransen organ about eight years ago. I'm mostly an amp builder/tweaker, but I did build a distortion pedal from a kit 20 years ago. There are two sizes. Half are GE and the others all have a splotch of paint applied by the organ maker to obscure the brand.

Thomas Vox Replacements

Output Transistors Thomas only used germanium parts for outputs in the early amps, not in the signal circuits. The only commercial replacement listed is the DTG110, probably the “B” suffix. Combo Organ Heaven: Vox-Single Manual

The use of transistors in organ tone generators is very different from their use in fuzzboxes (where the type of transistor DOES make a difference). It's even possible to substitute Silicon transistors for Germanium ones, and no change in sound will be noticed. Organ dividers (which generate all the lower octaves from the top octave oscillators

Germanium Ge PubChem

Germanium is mainly a byproduct of zinc ore processing. It is a hard, grayish-white element; it has a metallic luster and the same crystal structure as diamond; and it is brittle, like glass. In addition, it is important to note that germanium is a semiconductor, with electrical properties between those of a metal and an insulator. The development of the germanium transistor opened the door to
